2015 in review

The WordPress.com stats helper monkeys prepared a 2015 annual report for this blog.

Here’s an excerpt:

A New York City subway train holds 1,200 people. This blog was viewed about 5,700 times in 2015. If it were a NYC subway train, it would take about 5 trips to carry that many people.

  1. Hey Dr.

Are you checking out Fallout 4?

Would not blame you if not. But to ignore a game because of your history with NEXAS might not work out in the long run.

If you would like to set up a separate ‘Fallout’ Site (as in workable for developers & stuff) why not run it by me? I might be more than interested.

    • Hi Blake

In fact… I finished FO4 and the impressions will be published on the other page, GameVivisector.
Mixed feelings about FO4 but I think I will try to continue the Scorched Earth saga in FO4, although a lot of things in this release are not pleasing me.
      Have a good new year!

  2. FO4, hmmm, as I emailed you about my review, the quote “If you put lipstick, rouge, maybe a little eyeliner and a sequin dress on Bernice the Pig, it is still Bernice the Pig” is my overall opinion.

But there are some positives to be found among all of the negatives.

To be honest, I started modifying FO4 after 5 minutes of playing, then I gave up after making it to the Institute and leaving. The “Radiant” minor quest system and the companions repeating their lines over and over again began to be irritating, at least “Dogmeat” didn’t repeat his lines, but his constant whining was also getting on my nerves, … so I decided to put Bernice back into her pen and wait for the FO4 GECK to come out and the mod authors to begin renovating it.

(hopefully the mod authors don’t cater to the adolescent crowd by making big titties and nude body mods, … that gets old quick. Yeah, there are mods that shoot exploding Teddy Bears too, but insane whimsical weapons don’t seem out of place in Bernice’s world.)

Da Hamstah abides but is not into “rishathra”.

Scorched Earth / AQFH is it’s own story. It takes place in an open world that ignores the one that Bethesda tries push on us with it’s “Skyrim-ification” of the Fallout-verse. It has it’s own background with it’s own good and evil forces vying for domination. It even has it’s own inventions, like the “Direct Energy Coupling” device and the MEK Power Armor system, … so I say why not?

    Some ideas off the top:

Would having an ENCLAVE faction backed up by the Institute against Majestic work?, maybe a liaison in the Synth Retention Bureau? Or better yet, a Majestic Mole in the SRB? The Institute Science Labs could be where all the tech the player in FO3 was using, came from?

Since the introduction of Bethesda’s Creation engine allows more memory use than the old 4Gb limit of the Gamebryo, I am sure some interesting level designs can come out of it, … so why not?

As Blake infers, Nexus is not Bethesda, … while Bethesda’s story writing talent may be lacking, their Creation Engine is not too shabby.
