A true story… episode 1

When the Fallout 3 mod “A Quest for Heaven: Secrets from the Past” first came out, the success was a surprise even for Doria aka Firelady.

You will never guess where had Firelady the “fire” to create such a gem on the first try. It’s true, it was the FIRST mod for Fallout 3 made by Firelady.

At some point she had asked a very “well renowned” mod maker for some advice and help regarding some scripting. The answer was: ” You have the GECK, learn by yourself, I don’t have time to waste with newbie’s“.

That was the starting point for one of the most successful series of mods for Fallout 3. That one arrogant answer.

During that period, the mod maker, who easily missplaces his notes, was overthrown by Firelady. Ah, but you don’t spit in someone’s face without consequences …

Time had passed and “A Quest for Heaven 2: Like a Diamond in the Sky” saw the light of public release … and then began a subtle crusade against Firelady. At least, from our point of view it did. Suspicious things began happening.

The Nexus site kept the “File of the Month” position open for 2 MONTHS and A Quest for Heaven 2 was not selected as a winner even though it had met all the requirements and had enough votes for that position at the end of the first month… this had never happened before, and it never happened afterward.

Time had passed again … and suddenly, the same well renowned mod maker began complaining (whined about it actually) that his mods NEVER win the “File of the Month” … you will never guess what happened next! Suddenly, the old mods with missplaced notes and meetings with strange bedfellows began to be VOTED File of the Month! Sure, a small number of votes, but enough to satisfy the ego.

At that point, Doria told me: “It’s time to leave Nexus, they don’t like us, they don’t want us!

I argued with her, for the sake of the fans of AQFH series. Why?, because you could find the “A Quest for Heaven” mod series being downloaded and rated by people from all over the world, from Russia to Japan, from North America to South America, from China to Malaysia. Let’s face it, it was a popular series that people all over the world admired.

She reconsidered pulling the series from Nexus based on my arguments. Finally, Doria (Firelady) was getting the recognition she deserved. AQFH 3  was voted File of the Month at the end of 2013. Too late for Doria… It was endorsed by so many, including the Nexus “micalov staff member “. Is this crazy or what?

Later, it would turn out that my advice to Doria was wrong, and that she was right all along.

But more in the next episode, about those who talk… and talk… and do nothing. They just talk, thinking that they have all the answers and that they are the “masters of advice”.

A story that begins with a Kat and ends in a drama…

  2. Uh thats a relief. I was afraid that that people from nexus discouraged you enough to stop the series. I am glad that you didnt. I am looking forward for continuation of your exciting work.
    Best wishes from Poland
